Book of Numbers - Chapter 35 - Verse 3

35:3
And the cities shall they have to dwell in; and the suburbs of them shall be for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.

Meaning

In this verse from the Bible, it discusses how the land was to be divided for the Israelites when they entered the promised land. The cities were designated for the people to live in, while the suburbs were set aside for their cattle, goods, and beasts. This division allowed for efficient use of the land, ensuring that there was enough space for both the people and their livestock. The suburbs were important for the Israelites as they relied heavily on their cattle and beasts for their livelihood. By having designated areas for their animals and goods, the Israelites were able to maintain their way of life and prosper in the new land. This verse highlights the importance of proper planning and organization in utilizing resources and living harmoniously with one's surroundings.

Theological Overview

When looking at the theological interpretation of this verse from the book of Ezekiel, we can see that it speaks to the idea of provision and stewardship. The mention of cities and suburbs for dwelling reflects the importance of God providing for His people not only in their basic needs but also in their ability to establish communities and thrive in their surroundings. The inclusion of space for cattle, goods, and beasts further reinforces the idea of God's abundant provision for His people's material needs. This verse can be seen as a reminder of God's faithfulness in providing for His people's needs and the importance of responsible stewardship of the resources He has provided.
